SoLag's AhbA brews up weekly coffee shop

Now, grab a "craft coffee" at AhbA, Mon-Friday 7 am open!

This week, I've got some great news for you, especially for SoLag residents … “SoLag” meaning South Laguna residents.

Now, I don't know how many of you SoLaggers were around when Cafe Vienna closed. Remember Cafe Vienna? Anybody remember when it closed?
Anybody?
Anybody?
April 15th, 2012. TWELVE YEARS AGO, Eva and Ferdinand closed Cafe Vienna. Wow, time flies!

Now, don’t get me wrong … we've loved what's happened since then. We have NEA Pizza, and we love those folks; we think it's fabulous. And Coyote Grill picked up the pace with their amazing fare; they're an amazing breakfast house for us with QUITE an extensive menu.

But we really haven't had a little coffee house come into play since we lost Cafe Vienna in 2012. But NOW … AhbA is now in the game!

I ran into AhbA owner Nick Bennett at The Ranch last weekend, and he said that they had recently decided to open for coffee service with a limited breakfast menu as well.

And unbeknownst to Nick … he actually started this service at about the same time that Cafe Vienna closed twelve years ago. He must have felt the vibe of longing from all the former Vienna clan.

Now, this is a full coffee menu. It's got all the cappuccinos and Americanos, everything drip or espresso. One important caveat: They don't have decaf yet, but I'm sure they will bring it in for us. I'm a decaf drinker and I know a lot of folks try to limit the caffeine thing.

His “limited menu,” though, is fabulous. He's got Avocado Toast, an Egg Sammie, a Breakfast Burrito with AhbA secret sauce. He also offers Chocolate and Almond Crossiants (and why not just stop there because you can’t get much better than that?)

It's a really great little coffee shop. He also offers free wifi there. When I dropped in last week, there were a few people in there working away on the wifi, eating their breakfast, having some coffee … it was a very peaceful, wonderful setting. What a great idea for all of us who work remotely and need to practice our socialization skills.

Now, the reason why Nick opened for coffee and mini-breakfast … he said, “I know that there's no coffee shop in the area. We haven't had one for a while. My people are already there prepping for the day. They're getting everything rocking and rolling, so why not open it for everybody?”

AhbA is now open 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday through Friday. Isn't that awesome?

The menu also includes brunch and lunch items as you get into your day. But what I think is most fabulous is the fact that you can trot down and get a great coffee there at 7:00 AM.

So, 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM weekly, Monday through Friday. On the weekends, of course, AhbA moves into their brunch service on the weekends, 9 AM to 2 PM.

AhbA has been a great addition to Laguna Beach in the evenings … then, it became a great restaurant for lunch … then a great restaurant for weekend brunch … and now it's great with that early morning coffee service.

I'll see you over there.
