Ivan Spiers' two restaurants downtown have both closed suddenly. Bodega opened in Oct 2024, a second concept for Ivan after "Laguna Fish Co" refused to swim. (estd. 2022). Skyloft, however, has been around for years - also an October baby in 2015.
Ivan has told me that he'll talk to me about it at the end of the week to set all records straight. Stay tuned.
Let's hope Spiers has new plans for this stacked restaurant location at 422 S. Coast Highway across from Hotel Laguna as he's proven one of our most successful restaurateurs in town - and the largest, as well with 4 different concepts, including his first South African-roots styled Mozambique (estd. 2005), and taking over the well-loved Ristorante Rumari with refreshed menus and service in the spring of 2023.
The godfather of our live music scene
I've often commended Ivan on his sheer audacity and entrepreneurial spirit as he's not only dreamed up and managed multiple concepts but is truly a "godfather" to our live music scene with daily support of local and regional musicians in Mozambique, Skyloft and Bodega.
Third largest employer in Laguna Beach
Aside from pouring millions into his rooftop and live music concepts, Spiers is also one of the town's largest employers - just two resort hotels provide more jobs in Laguna Beach above Spiers, and this doesn't include the hundreds of musicians hired over the 20 years he's been a Laguna Beach fixture.
As soon as I have more details direct from Ivan, you know I'll be sharing. In the meantime, let's continue to support Ivan and his currently open restaurants rather than rumormongering or fault finding without facts.
Hi, the article about how the 2 places closed is kinda confusing… we are local and we heard a completely different story!!!
