I’ve Never Had a Real Sea Shanty Singer on my Show!
Raised in a centuries-long tradition, Tony Sciola has promised to fill us in on the vital role sea shanty singers have played AND he’ll be singing, too (he’s promised to keep it clean for the FCC. 😄) Back in the day, sea shanty singers weren’t just the entertainment – they were the original workplace playlist, keeping sailors rowing, hoisting, and hauling in sync long before Spotify was a thing. 🎶⚓️
This June 13th/14th Event: A Dad’s Father’s Day Gift Come True …
Each year, the Newport Beach Wooden Boat Festival takes it down with a jaunty captain’s nod to the fabulous historic wooden boats and yachts that still grace our waters.
I LOVE this event. And I think the hosting team – the Balboa Yacht Club – has outdone itself with this year’s June 13th and 14th Hollywood theme – Stories of the Sea: Wooden Boats in Film & Fiction.
Classic wooden beauties owned by Hollywood celebrities, or boats and yachts that have starred as celebrities themselves in film and book roles will be motoring in from all points of the country. We’re talking everything from runabouts to Judy Garland’s restored mine sweeper to yachts owned by John Wayne, Errol Flynn and more.
This “fest” has taken on mammoth proportions.
The event begins with a VIP Sneak Peek Party on Fri, June 13th with special previews of the visiting boats, champagne, great wine tastings, plenty of fashionable bites an over-the-top live auction and more. (Less than 50 tickets remain at $90 a person.)
On Saturday, June 13th, it’s just a $15 ticket (kids under 12 free) for a full day of events, boat tours, live music, fun lectures, a fully stocked and activity-driven kids’ section, giant BBQs and our own Laguna Beach plein air painters capturing all the moments.
And, of course, our Sea Shanty Singer Tony Sciola will be wowing the crowds on both days, just as sure as anchors drop and sails fly. But WE get to hear him - and all the insider details first – on my Monday show. Tune in and turn on at 2 pm PT, folks!
