Hilarious Havoc: What happens when everyone cares at once

Monday's show: Our very own "I Love Lucy" skit

Have you ever seen the “I Love Lucy” skit when Lucy and Ethel get a job at the chocolate factory wrapping chocolates on an assembly line? What starts out easy ends up becoming hysterically overwhelming.

This was me and Ruben Flores on my radio show Monday.

Apparently, our enthusiasm to recruit friends, peers, chefs, etc. to call in during our hour on Monday was met with … ehrm … more extreme enthusiasm than we’d imagined. All hell broke loose, actually, with phone lines lighting up everywhere and no one on our side of the glass (me and Ruben) – or on the other side of the glass (radio station technology geniuses and operators) – knowing what to do with the anomaly.

I explain the hilariousness of it in the 5-minute video above.

Video highlights? Well, for starters, I gave out the wrong phone number. Then I discovered that trying to queue up the next person while Ruben gabbed madly with the current caller … would actually DROP the current caller mid-sentence … like a rock. BOOM! Gone! (Fortunately, they’ve remained our friends.) Then, there were those moments of banging on the glass to try to get the attention of our more technically inclined geniuses hanging out in the community room enjoying their donuts and pizza. It was the funniest chaos and the fastest-moving, most hysterical hour I think I’ve experienced … ever.

So, first, my apologies …

… to all you amazing people who tried to call in and couldn’t get through.

Second, please give us the benefit of donating still at the radio’s website.

This is so important for the longevity of The Only Community Non-Profit Radio Station for miles around - run by 80 volunteer Laguna Beach resident hosts like me!

Your donations also help keep “Best of Laguna Beach” on the airwaves, too, with new restaurant announcements, more “insider operations info” from me and Restaurant Developer Bruce Russo, and more interviews to come just this year with Chef Erik DeMarchi (Oliver’s Osteria), Sawdust Artist fave Baruch Kaufman, Chef Nick Gstrein (The Drake) and even a Very Special Guest Chef from the Hamptons of Long Island, New York!

Remember! EVERYONE who donates as “Team Best of Laguna” is entered in a raffle to win dinner with me!

One winner will be drawn after our KXFM 104.7 fundraising event officially closes this Friday. If you’re chosen and within the region, you’ll win dinner with me at one of our newly opened restaurants! (My treat.) Choose to bring a lucky person along or, if you’d rather, Ruben will join us for what will assuredly be a lively, fun dinner.

If you’re chosen and NOT in the region, I’ll be sending you a gift box of all sorts of wonderfulness from Laguna Beach.

How’s that for reciprocal love? I do appreciate every single one of you, and can’t thank you enough for your support.

P.S. I’ll post the replay of Monday’s “Our Craziest Hour” shortly. Ruben and I chatted with a lot of fun people.
