When I was working with Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken Soup for the Soul), he used to do a Mega Book Marketing conference for authors and wanna be authors. He would start each event with this rather profound phrase:
“You’ve finally published that book! You’ve rolled the big stone up the mountain, and you feel so triumphant. You’re an author! You’re an almost author! But, let me tell you, my friends … getting the book published is 10% of the project. MARKETING of your book – that’s the other 90%.”
Ain’t it the truth?
For three decades, I devoted a large portion of my marketing agency’s agenda to helping writers (and, frankly anyone in the process of rolling a big stone up a new hill) succeed in their marketing with the least amount of steps and time. And, well, I’m all for lightening the load of that “stone,” too - your creative process deserves to be an energizing, fun process.
That’s what John and I will be talking about on today’s show.
His Wednesday radio show on KXFM Radio 104.7, “Everybody’s Got a Story,” has drawn in all sorts of writers and authors from all points of the globe as he works to help writers actually write, edit, publish and survive the journey.
I want you to do more than survive the journey to and in authorship.
As a daily, 50+ year writer and multi-book author myself, I promise, it’s an exhilarating journey IF YOU LET IT BE. Most of that “letting” has to do with getting past the talk in your own head about whether you deserve to be writing books or blogs or scripts or marketing content for the back of chocolate boxes (which, yes, I did). And then there’s that OTHER part of your self talk that claims you don’t know a darned thing about marketing.
I’m on the show today to put an end to all that talk in your head.
And, in the process, save you from buying into every sales person who comes along promising the end-all-be-all (expensive) marketing solution for you.
Speakers like Mark Victor and Bob Proctor often asked me to their big stages to talk about Strategic Marketing. Note, very important word in front of that “M” word - Strategic. If you’re going to spend your time marketing, it danged well better be strategic and leveraged.
This is exactly what I’ll be focusing on today - solutions that are strategic and leveraged that don’t wrangle you into spending ridiculous amounts of money. I look forward to “seeing” you there!
P.S. If you absolutely have to miss it, I’ll see if I can get a replay, but can’t promise. Just try to make it to the show!
